I have the playon software that records streaming TV shows kinda like a DVR. When these recordings occur playon automatically creates a folder. I canât control the naming of this folder. I have plex look to the location of these folders so it picks up anything I record. The problem I am having is that when I record some TV shows plex doesnât pull the correct metadata. For example when I I have both & use each for different purposes. I use PlayOn to view online TV & other websites & have the record add-on to record streams. I use Plex to stream local media files that I have on a pc I use as a file server. I use both on several Roku boxes. I think it's worth the price because it consolidates a wide variety of on line media in one Roku channel. So.. Plex does require a Plex Media Server and Playon requires a PC of some sort. But Plex is more than some sort of channel browser. And sure, a PC can be whatever you want (including a PMS). I just think the two things are very different (Plex vs. Playon). If you don't need a media library, I'd leave Plex out of the loop, because it's not really (primarily) a channel browser.
